Amy Youngs does super interesting work with plants, insects, and all manner of technology amongst her media. She built a Holodeck for House Crickets —a video of outdoor scenery is projected onto the crickets’ glass cage. The crickets are allowed some measure of control over their environment (whether they know it or not) so each time they chirp, the frame of the video projected on their environment advances and the scenery changes. Any time they tire of the scenery, a few chirps will transport them to a new place. Go here for a video of the Holodeck in action.
