lovely creatures

Migration, a film by Doug Aitken. He loosed animals of North America, like bison, beaver, and cougar into hotel rooms, then filmed them just doing their thing.  It’s mesmerizing, in a similar way to the Deeparture film. This quote from the LA Times says it well: “The animals bring what feels like an ancient quality of consciousness to bear on a garishly contemporary setting, illuminating the chasm between the two.”

It’s stunning, and raises lots of interesting questions. (I feel a bit conflicted about the making of it though - I can’t help but wonder, where did these animals come from?)
